SUMMARY:Unravelling the Silk Road
DESCRIPTION:The three textile roads that tangle their way through Central Asia\, changed and transformed the physical landscape\, history\, politics and culture of the region. Wool created the clothing and housing needed by the great nomadic cultures that were to dominate Middle Asia. Silk was more valuable than gold and used as currency\, creating a network of trading routes that led to the first age of globalisation. Cotton was the cause of Russian and then Soviet colonisation. All three textiles changed the fortunes of this part of the world: a meeting place between Mohammed and Marx. \nDates and Locations \nThursday 7 August 2025 Chatswood (NSW) \nWednesday 20 August Canberra (ACT) \nThursday 28 August Adelaide (SA) \nClick on your preferred location above for more details and to book tickets.
