More than 400 pieces make up this remarkable Hoard\, including a unique walnut-sized emerald contacting a watch movement\, a slithery emerald studded salamander to earrings shimmering with suspended amethysts. DESCRIPTION:The serenity\, asymmetry and control of a Japanese garden is a seductive contrast to Western symmetry\, form and free growth. Even at the time of Japan’s self-imposed isolation\, 1639-1854\, information reached the West about trees\, plants\, flowers and designs through illustrations on imported porcelain\, lacquer and screens. Once Japan opened up\, travellers and plant-hunters were able to bring back information about the gardens\, and the plants themselves. Japanese garden styles became highly fashionable into the 20th century\, with several still identifiable. DESCRIPTION:‘Diverse riche and costlye Jewells’ is a perfect description of the unique collection of jewels known as the ‘Cheapside Hoard’. Unearthed\, by chance\, in 1912 in one of the most historic parts of London\, it seems it was lost\, or buried\, between 1640 and 1666. More than 400 pieces make up this remarkable Hoard\, including a unique walnut-sized emerald contacting a watch movement\, a slithery emerald studded salamander to earrings shimmering with suspended amethysts. SUMMARY:Cutting Rythms\, Shaping Stories: How Film Editing Works
DESCRIPTION:Few aspects of creative filmmaking are as shrouded in mystery as the work of the film editor. What do they do? How does it work? Film editors will usually say their art is intuitive – magic\, instinctive\, inexpressible. But this lecture explodes the myth that good editing is invisible\, and reveals what goes on in the edit suite to save movies\, tell stories and make thousands of bits of footage into coherent and compelling films. Drawing on her first-hand experience as an editor and her many years as a professional dancer\, Karen Pearlman puts forward the idea that editing is a form of choreography. She shows how editors shape movement – movement of story\, movement of emotion\, and movement of image and sound\, into moving experiences for an audience.
