In the 13th–14th centuries, Syrian and Egptian glassmakers ymastered works decorated with enamels and gold, influencing Venetian glass, which peaked in the 15th–16th centuries. In the 19th century, renewed interest in this enamelled and gilded glass led to the original Islamic works becoming sought-after collectibles on the French art market.
