ArtsNational Hobart is a not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers, providing superbly illustrated, informative and entertaining lecture presentations on many diverse topics relating to the arts. We support young artists and young people to engage in the arts. The Association also supports young conservators through our philanthropic fund the Patricia Robertson Fund.

This is an ArtsNational Hobart initiative to support young and emerging artists in southern Tasmania.

2026 Theme: Past–Present-Future

Artists’ Brief

Your photographic image should endeavour to respond to the theme, ‘Past – Present – Future’. All entrants will present work that embodies, comments on or celebrates this theme. Responses to the theme may include one or any combination of the thematic words. Your entry should be sent to us electronically via the entry form below.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

ArtsNational 2026 PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION – “Past - Present - Future
• Applicants must be turning 16 during 2026 or up to age 24.
• Applicants must reside in Southern Tasmania
• Each artist/maker can submit only one (1) work.
• Entry must be a photographic work. Entries may also be one composite piece if all elements are the work of the artist/maker and can involve post-production but videos and films will not be accepted.
• Artworks generated using AI will not be accepted
• Completed application forms and uploaded image must be received by ArtsNational Hobart on or before the submission closing date.
• Late entries will not be accepted.
• All entries will be viewed and judged by a panel including members of the ArtsNational Hobart Competition Committee and Photographic Art specialists.
Photographic Artwork requirements:
a) Dimensions of JPEG must NOT exceed 2 MB.
b) Works must be the original completed work of the artist/maker entering the competition
c) Work submitted must not infringe the copyright, moral rights or other rights of any third party

In order to be considered, entries must include the following:
1. a completed application form for the artwork submitted and Artwork details including title, year, medium, size
2. One image of the artwork entered as a JPEG file, named as follows: ArtistSurname_FirstInitial_ArtworkTitle.jpg (e.g Smith_B_Roses.jpg). (Image may be used for website and promotion, if selected)
3. Artist/artwork statement (up to 150 words). (This text may be published in conjunction with the announcement of winners in the ArtsNational Newsletter and on the ArtsNational website).
4. Exhibitors agree for their artworks to be shown on the ArtsNational website. Images will only be reproduced with a credit to the creator
• ArtsNational Hobart reserves the right to decline any work deemed to be inappropriate
• ArtsNational Hobart reserves the right to use images of artwork submitted and photographs of selected artwork for promoting this competition, for inclusion in the online catalogue and for archival purposes (either printed and/or online)
• Competition finalists will be notified by e-mail
• The selection decision of ArtsNational will be final, and not subject to discussion, or appeal. No correspondence will be entered into.
• Prizes are as follows: First Prize $1,500; Members’ Choice $1,000; 3 x Honourable Mentions $750 ea.
